Job Overview
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey detached house with built-in garage
Problem: Exterior rat activity reported; no interior activity
Service: Rat treatment
Visits: 2
Summary
We completed a two-visit exterior rat treatment at a detached residential property in Mississauga. Activity was limited to the exterior, with no signs reported inside the home. Our team focused on exterior inspection, population reduction using tamper-resistant bait stations, and monitoring. No further activity was reported by the second visit.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached home with multiple exterior wall penetrations and a raised rear deck. Ground cover and vegetation were present along sections of the foundation, and several exterior vents and service lines were visible at grade level.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported a high level of rat activity around the exterior of the house. There were no reports of rats inside the living space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician identified multiple exterior features that could be accessed by rodents. Several wall vents appeared reachable from ground level, and gaps were visible at select transitions along the foundation. The rear deck structure showed signs of burrowing beneath it, indicating potential harborage areas. No interior signs of activity were observed or reported.
Photos from the inspection show the rear deck and steps, exterior wall vents at foundation height, utility and plumbing penetrations near the foundation, and burrowing areas beneath the deck. Bait stations are shown positioned at ground level along the exterior perimeter.

Cause Analysis
Exterior rat activity was likely supported by accessible foundation-level vents, gaps, and sheltered areas beneath the deck. Ground cover and vegetation along the foundation can provide concealment and travel paths for rodents. These conditions can allow rats to remain active around a structure even when interior access has not yet occurred.
Treatment / Removal
A licensed exterminator carried out exterior rat treatment in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Two large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations were installed along the exterior perimeter to reduce the local rat population. Stations were positioned in areas consistent with observed activity and typical rodent travel routes. The technician, Dylan, completed the setup and documented conditions for follow-up.

Exclusion & Repairs
Potential exclusion work was identified, including sealing accessible wall vents and gaps and addressing openings associated with the deck structure. A quote for exclusion and sealing was provided; however, the homeowner chose not to proceed with this work at the time.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further exterior rat activity and indicated they were satisfied with the results of the treatment. The bait stations remained in place for monitoring, and no additional action was requested.
Technician Notes
- Visit 1: Exterior inspection completed. Multiple accessible vents and gaps noted, along with burrowing beneath the rear deck. Two tamper-resistant bait stations installed. Exclusion options documented and quoted.
- Visit 2: Homeowner reported no continued exterior activity. No interior issues reported. No further treatment required at this time.
