Job Overview
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey detached house with built-in garage
Problem: Exterior rat activity reported on the property and neighbouring property
Service: Exterior rat treatment using tamper-resistant bait stations
Visits: 3
Summary
Pest Control Mississauga responded to reports of ongoing rat activity affecting a residential property. While activity was originating from a neighbouring area, preventative and population-reduction measures were implemented on the client’s property to limit exterior pressure and prevent future interior entry. Service was carried out over multiple visits with continued monitoring and maintenance.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached home with landscaped exterior areas and fencing along the perimeter. The surrounding neighbourhood includes similar residential structures, which can support sustained rodent populations when food sources and harbourage are present.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported repeated sightings of rats on both her property and an adjacent property. Although no interior activity was noted, the concern was focused on reducing exterior rat presence and preventing escalation into the home.
Inspection & Findings
An exterior inspection was completed to assess potential entry points, rodent travel paths, and suitable locations for control measures. No signs of interior rat activity were observed. Conditions around the perimeter were consistent with exterior foraging and movement rather than structural entry.
Photos from the site show tamper-resistant bait stations positioned at ground level along fencing and landscaped areas, with evidence of bait consumption during follow-up visits.
Cause Analysis
Rats in this area are commonly sustained by dense residential development, accessible food sources, and shared property boundaries. Even when a single property is well maintained, neighbouring activity can contribute to ongoing exterior pressure. Without consistent population control, rats will continue to travel between properties in search of shelter and food.
Treatment / Removal
A licensed exterminator performed the work in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.
- Visit 1: Technician Dylan installed two large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations around the exterior of the home to target the local rat population.
- Visit 2: Ongoing monitoring and rebaiting were carried out as part of scheduled maintenance, with continued signs of bait uptake indicating exterior population pressure.
- Visit 3: A third exterior bait station was added to further suppress activity due to the elevated rat population common in this area of Mississauga.
All treatment remained strictly exterior, as no interior infestation was present.

Exclusion & Repairs
Potential exterior entry points were identified during inspection and discussed with the homeowner. No immediate exclusion work was performed as no interior access was confirmed, and the focus remained on exterior population control.
Outcome & Confirmation
Following installation and continued maintenance of the exterior bait stations, rat activity on the property was reduced to near zero. Ongoing six-month monitoring has successfully maintained control levels and minimized the likelihood of rats attempting to enter the structure.
Technician Notes
Dylan noted consistent bait consumption during follow-up visits, confirming active exterior rat pressure in the area. Continued maintenance was recommended due to regional conditions in Mississauga, where rat populations require regular attention to remain controlled.
