Job Overview
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Structure: Two-story detached house with an attached garage
Problem: Nocturnal attic noises consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon exclusion and roofline repairs
Visits: Two
Summary
We responded to a report of nighttime attic noises at a detached home undergoing roof renovations. Our inspection identified raccoon access at the roofline along the drip edge. Humane exclusion was completed using a one-way door, followed by extensive sealing and reinforcement of vulnerable roof areas. A return visit confirmed successful removal and secure exclusion.
Background / Property Context
The property was a two-story detached house with an attached garage. At the time of service, roof renovations were underway and shingles had been removed, leaving exposed sheathing and roofline details. Winter weather conditions and open roof sections increased access opportunities for wildlife.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported recurring sounds in the attic during nighttime hours, consistent with raccoon movement. The concern was focused on preventing further attic access and avoiding damage while renovations were ongoing.
Inspection & Findings
Our inspection found a primary entry point at the roofline along the drip edge. Exposed wood and gaps created by the renovation provided sufficient space for a raccoon to access the attic. Additional small openings and vulnerable transitions along the roof edge were also noted. No interior attic inspection was required as the work occurred outside of raccoon baby season.

Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly target roof edges and drip lines where materials meet and gaps can form. Ongoing roof renovations, combined with winter conditions, left exposed areas that reduced the natural barriers typically provided by shingles and finished flashing. These conditions made the attic accessible from the roofline.
Treatment / Removal
On the first visit, our technician Ardian installed a one-way door at the identified main entry point to allow the adult raccoon to exit without re-entry. This approach ensured humane, non-lethal removal while preventing further access during the exclusion period.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following door installation, we completed preventative exclusion work along the roofline. Approximately forty-seven feet of drip edge were sealed using galvanized steel mesh to reinforce the perimeter. Eight additional openings were sealed using flashing to address smaller gaps and transitions. Roof vents were also protected as an added preventative measure against future entry.

Outcome & Confirmation
On the second visit, the one-way door was removed after the homeowner confirmed that no further activity had been heard. Ardian inspected all exclusion materials and repairs, confirming they were intact and secure. No further wildlife activity was reported following completion of the work.

Technician Notes
All work was completed safely under winter conditions on an active renovation site. Exclusion materials were fastened securely to exposed roof decking and framing. Final inspection confirmed continuous coverage along the roof edge with no remaining access points observed.
