Mouse Infestation Treatment with Exterior Exclusion – Mississauga

Job Overview

Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Structure: Two-story detached house with built-in garage
Problem: Interior mouse activity with evidence of rat presence in the attic and exterior burrowing
Service: Mouse treatment with exterior baiting and vent exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

Our team completed a two-visit mouse treatment at a detached residential property in Mississauga. The work addressed active interior mouse activity, confirmed rodent evidence in the attic, and exterior conditions consistent with burrowing. Follow-up work included exterior baiting and the installation of a galvanized wall vent cover. No further interior activity was reported after completion.

Background / Property Context

The property is a two-story detached home with a built-in garage and rear deck. The exterior includes soil and gravel areas along the foundation, creating conditions that can allow burrowing rodents access points near the structure.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported scratching and movement sounds in the ceiling at night and ongoing mouse activity inside the house. The customer also noted a prior squirrel removal and wanted confirmation that no other wildlife issues were present.

Inspection & Findings

An inspection of the attic revealed a large quantity of rodent droppings consistent with rat activity. Monitoring snap traps were placed in the attic to assess ongoing activity. Exterior inspection identified multiple burrowing areas near the back deck, indicating rat movement around the foundation. Interior signs confirmed an active mouse infestation within the living space.

Cause Analysis

Rodent activity was likely encouraged by accessible ground-level conditions around the rear deck and foundation. Exterior burrowing can allow rats to establish nesting areas close to a structure, while small exterior openings such as wall vents can provide access for mice. Although mice and rats typically avoid cohabitation, overlapping activity can occur when exterior conditions support both.

Treatment / Removal

Mouse treatment was completed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed in interior areas showing high mouse activity. Monitoring traps were installed in the attic to track rodent movement without disturbing insulation or structural components.

Exclusion & Repairs

During the second visit, our team installed a galvanized steel wall vent cover to prevent rodent entry through the vent opening. One large, weighted tamper-resistant exterior bait station was also installed near the foundation to address exterior rodent pressure and reduce reinfestation risk

Outcome & Confirmation

At follow-up, the homeowner reported no further interior rodent activity and did not require additional baiting. Monitoring indicated successful control, and no new signs of mice were observed inside the home. The customer confirmed satisfaction with the outcome and reported no ongoing issues.

Technician Notes

The work was completed over two visits by technician Dylan. Initial treatment focused on active mouse control and monitoring, followed by approved exterior baiting and vent exclusion. Photos show exterior burrowing near the foundation, an unsecured wall vent prior to work, and the installed galvanized vent cover after completion.
