Raccoon Attic Intrusion via Roof Vent – Mississauga

Job Overview

Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey detached house with an attached garage
Problem: Nocturnal attic noises consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon removal and roof vent exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

We addressed a raccoon intrusion in the attic of a two-storey detached home. Inspection confirmed access through a damaged roof vent. Humane one-way doors were installed to allow animals to exit, followed by full roof vent exclusion and a final confirmation visit to ensure the issue was resolved.

Background / Property Context

The property is a suburban detached home with multiple roof penetrations, including standard roof vents. Work was completed in August during late baby season, with no weather-related limitations affecting access or installation.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported nighttime sounds coming from the attic, a pattern commonly associated with raccoon activity due to their nocturnal behavior.

Inspection & Findings

Our inspection identified a primary entry point at a roof vent that had been partially torn away. Activity patterns and entry damage were consistent with raccoon use of the attic space. Additional roof vents were noted as potential secondary access points.

Cause Analysis

Raccoons commonly target roof vents due to their elevated position and direct access to attic spaces. Repeated climbing and prying can loosen vent covers over time. During baby season, females are more likely to force entry to establish denning areas.

Treatment / Removal

On the first visit, our technician Richard installed humane one-way doors at the identified entry locations. These devices allowed adult raccoons to exit while preventing re-entry and manipulation. Installation was performed to ensure dependent young could exit safely without trapping.

Exclusion & Repairs

Eight roof vents were sealed using galvanized steel vent covers to prevent future access. The primary entry area was disinfected after door installation to address contamination commonly associated with raccoon activity. All materials were secured to withstand weather and animal pressure.
